Ondo Government Launches Free Shuttle Buses and Boats for Students as Schools Resume

In line with Governor Lucky Aiyedati

The services commenced on Monday as schools resumed for the new academic session.

During a monitoring exercise in Akure, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Mr Francis Ayodele, praised the governor for funding and staffing the initiative, which will run for the next 13 weeks. He assured parents and students that both the buses in towns and the boats in riverine communities are completely free of charge, urging them to report any complaints directly to his office.

Ayodele further advised students to be orderly, obey rules guiding the service, and cooperate with drivers and onboard guides.

Parents, pupils, and students expressed excitement over the continuity of the programme, describing it as a huge relief. A parent, Mrs Bolanle Adeoye, who spoke at one of the bus stops, thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for easing the financial burden of transportation. She noted that the initiative would help families redirect funds to other pressing needs.

She also commended the governor for sustaining the scheme and prayed for his continued success in taking Ondo State to greater heights.

The free shuttle boats are already operational in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas, extending the service to riverine communities in the state.
