Twosday Throwback: Old Gen vs New Gen

Twosday Throwback: Old Gen vs New Gen

Tuesdays are for twos, and nothing fits better than putting the Old Gen and New Gen side by side. Because truly, the vibes are different but the fun? Still unmatched.

In school, Old Gen wrapped exercise books with brown paper, white calendar sheets or even old newspapers when mama couldn’t find wrapper paper. Though, brown paper is still in use, new Gen walks into class with glittery, customized covers and digital tablets. Old Gen had “mathematical sets” that stayed intact only for the first week — ruler broken, compass bent, protractor missing. New Gen? It’s Google Classroom, calculators on phones, and yet… still struggling with simultaneous equations.

Entertainment has taken a full spin. Old Gen gathered around the black-and-white TV for “Tales by Moonlight” and “Super Story” with no remote — you had to stand up and change the channel. New Gen is Netflix, Showmax, and skipping intros because patience is gone. Old Gen children had outdoor games like After Round One, Ten-Ten, Suwe, Ayo Olopon, Police and Thief and football with orange balls. New Gen kids? Call of Duty, FIFA on PlayStation and online gaming with strangers across the globe.

Even communication has evolved. Old Gen waited in long queues at NITEL phone booths, shouting “Hello, can you hear me?” into crackling lines. New Gen can video call across continents at no cost, yet somehow… still say “network is bad.”

But here’s the beauty: every generation has its charm. Old Gen taught us patience, community, and resilience. New Gen is teaching speed, creativity and global connection. Different flavors, same sweetness of life.

So this Twosday, let’s raise a toast — to the Old Gen who built the foundation, and to the New Gen adding fresh spice. The truth? Both had it good in their own ways.

Which camp are you — Old Gen, New Gen, or a proud blend of both?
