Tinubu Explains Delay in Ambassadorial Appointments, Cites Focus on Economy

President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the difficulty in finalising Nigeria’s list of ambassadorial nominees, explaining that the task requires careful consideration rather than haste.

Speaking in a video message, Tinubu said he could not “appoint just anybody” noting that while he still has several ambassadorial slots to fill, stitching together the right names has proven challenging.

“I couldn’t appoint everybody that I could have appointed. Thank you for your patience till now. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that too many people are craving for, but it’s not easy stitching together those names. First of all, cure the economy, bring hope to the people, as that is what we stop for and that hope is here. Thank you for believing in me” the president said.

He stressed that his priority since assuming office on May 29, 2023, has been stabilising the economy and restoring hope to Nigerians before turning to foreign appointments.

The last set of Nigerian ambassadors were named during the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, leaving diplomatic postings vacant under Tinubu despite growing pressure from Nigerians for appointments.
