Ogun PDP Denies Endorsing APC Candidate Ahead of August 16 By-Election

In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, the PDP clarified that its recent endorsement was solely for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and had no bearing on the upcoming by-election.

The clarification follows public comments made by the Ogun PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, and the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, during the official campaign flag-off for Bolarinwa Oluwole, the PDP candidate contesting the Remo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

“The attention of the PDP Ogun State chapter has been drawn to yet another fabricated story circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the party has endorsed the APC’s candidate and conceded defeat in the by-election. This is nothing but a blatant lie,” the statement read.

Setting the record straight, the PDP emphasized that its support for President Tinubu is rooted in the principle of power rotation and does not extend to state or National Assembly elections.

“The coming by-election is entirely separate from President Tinubu’s re-election bid. The APC’s attempt to twist this narrative is simply a desperate effort to manage the looming reality of another electoral defeat in Ogun State,” the party said.

Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, the PDP insisted that the APC stands no chance in Ogun State, citing what it described as the ruling party’s poor governance record in the state.
