PDP Convention Chair Ahmadu Fintiri Confirms Party Is Set for Ibadan Elective Convention

Adamawa State governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Convention Planning Committee, Ahmadu Fintiri, has affirmed that the party is heading to Ibadan for its elective national convention. He made the confirmation during a brief interaction with journalists on Thursday night.

The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, drew key PDP figures including Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs Tanimu Turaki.

Speaking to newsmen after the closed-door session, a visibly upbeat Fintiri announced that critical decisions had been reached and the party was fully prepared to proceed. “We’ve just concluded our stakeholders meeting where we took several elaborate decisions. I want to tell you that we are going to Ibadan for our convention and the convention is sacrosanct,” he said.

Attempts to obtain additional comments were unsuccessful as his security aides ushered him away from the briefing area.

His reassurance comes amid internal tensions and conflicting interpretations of recent court rulings, yet PDP leaders appear determined to move ahead with preparations for the Ibadan convention, which is expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
