FG Unveils New Curriculum with Digital, AI, and Entrepreneurship Focus

Nigeria’s education system is set for a major overhaul as the Federal Government on Sunday unveiled a new national school curriculum scheduled to take effect in September 2025. The details surfaced online Wednesday when the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, shared the full subject list on his X handle.

The revised curriculum places strong emphasis on digital literacy, coding, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies, marking a shift from traditional learning to skills relevant in today’s digital economy. At the Junior Secondary level, digital literacy and entrepreneurship will become compulsory, while the Senior Secondary level introduces programming, artificial intelligence, and additional international languages.

Junior Secondary (JSS 1–3):

  • Mathematics & Measurement – covering algebra, statistics, geometry, and applied measurements.
  • English Language – advanced grammar, essay writing, comprehension, and oral presentations.
  • Integrated Science – physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and lab safety.
  • Digital Literacy & Coding – Microsoft Office, internet research, Python basics, Scratch, robotics.
  • Social Studies – Nigerian and African history, geography, civics, and global issues.
  • Languages – mother tongue advancement plus conversational French/Arabic.
  • Creative Arts – drawing, crafts, drama, theatre, film basics, and music.
  • Physical & Health Education – sports, nutrition, reproductive health, first aid, and drug abuse awareness.

Senior Secondary (SS 1–3):

  • Mathematics & Advanced Applications – algebra, trigonometry, calculus basics, probability, statistics, and financial maths.
  • English & Communication – literary analysis, academic writing, world literature, public speaking, and journalism.
  • Sciences – physics, chemistry, biology, biotechnology, and environmental science.
  • Technology & Innovation – programming (Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), AI, robotics, data science, cybersecurity, and digital entrepreneurship.
  • Social Sciences – government, economics, history, philosophy, law, and ethics.
  • Languages – mother tongue literature plus fluency in French/Arabic/Chinese (optional).
  • Creative Arts & Innovation – fine arts, music, drama, film, and media production.
  • Physical & Health Education – advanced sports, leadership, mental health, and CPR.
  • Research & Project Work – final-year projects with data collection, analysis, and defense.
