Alaafin of Oyo Denies Appointment of New Chief Imam

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has dismissed rumours claiming that a new Chief Imam has been appointed for Oyo town, stating that no individual has been selected for the position.

In a statement released on Monday by the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, in Ibadan, the palace clarified that the authority to appoint a Chief Imam rests solely with the Alaafin.

“The attention of the Alaafin’s Palace has been drawn to wild speculations that a new Chief Imam has been appointed for Oyo. The good people of Oyo and the general public are advised to disregard such unfounded, baseless, and mischievous information, as no candidate has been chosen for the number one Islamic seat in Oyo town” the statement read.

According to the palace, the selection process is still ongoing with necessary consultations underway. The monarch urged residents to remain calm and peaceful, assuring them that the rightful candidate would be announced in due time.
