OOPL Threatens Legal Action Against EFCC Over Night Raid

The Management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has threatened legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a midnight raid on its premises.

Operatives from the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the facility around 2 a.m. on Sunday, arresting 93 youths, seizing 18 vehicles, and confiscating mobile devices during a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party at the OOPL Rounda Fun Spot. Viral footage from the incident showed attendees scrambling for safety.

The EFCC claimed the operation was based on credible intelligence linking some participants to suspected internet fraud.

Ortese said the EFCC failed to present a warrant and did not notify police officers stationed at the OOPL gate or those from Kemta Police Station, who had been deployed at the request of the organisers.

“This was a private, well-publicised event. The EFCC’s actions amount to an invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL’s rights as a corporate citizen and a blatant violation of the rights of those present” the statement read.

The management has launched an internal investigation and is demanding an explanation and a formal apology from the EFCC.

“Failure to do so will compel us to seek legal redress and appropriate sanctions” Ortese warned.
